Timothy Gaull’s Fundraiser

I helped co-found the LGBTQIA Council for Kentucky Democrats because I believe in building real political power for people who’ve had to fight just to be seen. We’re not just fundraising for a Pride event or a single campaign. We’re building a coalition of LGBTQIA Kentuckians who are stepping up to lead — in our neighborhoods, our schools, our cities, and our state.

For me, this work is personal.

I grew up gay in a deeply religious family. Like a lot of queer kids in faith spaces, I spent years afraid — afraid I wouldn’t be raptured with my family, afraid God didn’t love me, afraid of what would happen if anyone found out. Even when I chose celibacy and went into missions, I was still fired just for being gay. That moment made something painfully clear: you can follow every rule and still be pushed aside just because of who you are.

But I didn’t walk away. I started building something instead.

This Council is about making sure no one else is left behind. It’s about showing that LGBTQIA people in Kentucky are more than a demographic. We are neighbors, leaders, problem-solvers, and public servants. We aren’t just showing up for queer issues — we’re showing up for every issue that affects our communities.

We’re ready to serve as school board members, city council leaders, mayors, and state representatives. We’re here to strengthen our democracy, not from the sidelines, but from the center. This is about visibility, yes — but also about responsibility, community, and pride with purpose.
